Forged
By: Samuel Hoffman

I am Cassius' Sword,
Responsible for stabbings and more.
Then I was buried, forgotten, rediscovered, and forged,
Into a box of shots, to be used in the war.
As I was loaded and fired, reused and forged,
Into a helmet, protective when worn.
I was knocked off in the trenches, dented and forged,
Into a lunch box, food to be stored.
Given to a frontlines-man, eaten from, and forged,
Into a medal, pinned and adored.
Until I was auctioned, resold, and forged,
Into a letter-opener, no need to be torn.
So I am to stay, shoved in a junk drawer.
To collect dust for ever-more
Oh woe am I, Cassius' sword.
A poem written for Honors English 2, after finishing The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. It was supposed to be titled Cassius' Sword, but this title felt more fitting.
